Lhasa City Group Tour

Duration :03 Nights / 04 Days
Destination Covered :Lhasa

DAY 01 : Arrival In Lhasa (3680m)
On the first day of your itinerary, you will arrive in Lhasa at an altitude of 3680m, where our staff will greet you at Lhasa Airport or Railway and transfer you to your hotel. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours from the airport and 20 minutes from the train station. We recommend taking it easy on the first day to allow for acclimatization to the high altitude and to relieve any jet lag. You can explore the local market and the city at your leisure but avoid overexerting yourself.

DAY 02 : Lhasa Sightseeing
On the second day, your guide will meet you at your hotel for your first day of sightseeing on the high plateau. You will visit two monasteries - Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery.

In the morning, you will visit Drepung Monastery, the largest Tibetan monastery that once housed more than 10,000 monks. It was the residence of the Dalai Lamas until the Potala Palace was constructed by the Great Fifth Dalai Lama. The monastery is renowned for its academic study and was referred to as the Nalanda of Tibet. You will also have the opportunity to visit the biggest monastery kitchen and enjoy a Buddhist sculpture carving workshop near Drepung.

After lunch, you will head to Sera Monastery, another one of the 'Great Three' Gelug monasteries. It is famous for the "Monks Debate" Buddhism activities that take place from around 3 to 5 PM in the afternoon. The monastery also features three sand Mandalas and colorful Rock Paintings of Buddha, which are popular attractions.

Inside the palace, you can see the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and the meditation cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet. It is best to visit the palace in the morning for 2-3 hours before walking the pilgrimage route around the Potala.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Jokhang Temple, which is the center of Tibetan Buddhism and features Buddhist prayer wheels, a reclining deer, and golden sutra streamers. You will also have the opportunity to witness many pilgrims praying in front of the temple and to do kora with local pilgrims.

After visiting the temple, you will stroll through the old alleys of Barkhor Street, where you can drink sweet tea, chat with locals, and even bargain with street vendors to get a feel for real life in Lhasa.
