Dehradun



Dehradun is a capital of state of Uttarakhand and a fascinating city itself. Guru Dronacharya said to have been meditated here that is why valley is also called as Drona Valley. Dehradun had also been acknowledged during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangjeb in 17th century when successor of Guru Ram Rai lived here and received 7 villages from British Garhwal and 6 villages from Tehri estate in 1699.

Tapovan:
Tapovan is a religiously significant place as Lord Rama is said to have gone through rigorous penance at this place to get rid of curse for killing demon king Rawana. Tapovan is situated at a distance of 5 km from Dehradun city on Raipur road.

Lachhiwala:
Lachhiwala is a picnic spot for domestic travelers, situated on Haridwar-Rishikesh road from Dehradun. Visitors come here in large number in summer.

Shree Prakasheswar Mahadev Temple:
Temple is situated on Dehradun Mussoorie road at a distance of 13 km from Dehradun. It is dedicated to lord Shiva. Devotees come here in believing that Lord Shiva full fills their desires. It is located along side on Dehradun - Mussoorie road under the shades of trees. Temple is being maintained by Shiva Ranta Kendra, Haridwar. Temple does not take any sort of donation as Lord Shiva is supreme of all gods and almighty.

Boddha Maha stupa:
The temple is a perfect example of Buddhist culture and architecture, located at the clamantown area in Dehradun. The construction of 185 feet tall stupa was done under the supervision of Guru Mindroling Trichen and Khochen Rinpoche from Ningam Community. Stupa has five floors and every floor of it has a temple dedicated to different deities and Gurus.

Lakshman Sidhh.
It is considered one of the most significant Sidhh peeth of three of them located in Dehradun. It is said to be one of those eighty four Sidhh Peethas belong to divine saint Rishi Dattatreya. It is situated at a distance of 10 km from Dehradun on Dehradun - Rishikesh road.

Tapkeshwara Mahadeva:
This temple is situated on the bank of river Tons at a distance of 6 km from the city of Dehradun. Shivaratri festival is celebrated in large scale here every year. Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and due to its significance of being abode of Lord Shiva, devotees visit this place around the year. According to the Indian epic, the saint Drona is said to have been meditated here to please Lord Shiva, Lord Shiva appeared and blessed him with an art of archery.

Sahastra Dhara:
Sahastradhara is one of the most visited picnic spot in Dehradun. The place is blessed with sulphur showers from the mountains. It is a very famous scenic tourist spot. There are group of water streams dripping down through caves at one place called Sahastradhara. Thousands of tourists come here to enjoy this sulphur springs that cools them off from the scorching heat during summer. It had been a favorite tourist spot of our former & first prime minister of independent India late Pundit Jawahar Lal Nehru.

Deer Park:
At a distance of 10 km from Dehradun on way to Mussoorie, there is a famous Deer park to visit. Deer, Peacock, various kinds of birds and animals etc are kept inside the park to entertain kids and visitors. Apart from Deer park the place itself has lot to offer for visitors such as scenic beauty around the deer park.
